The Field Guide to Sports Metaphors

Where did the expressions "in you face" and "my bad" start?  What does "unforced error" really mean?  How did these sayings become part of every day language?  This book answers all these questions and more.

The book can be read cover to cover.  However, I liked picking a sport and reading the etymology of the words and expressions from that sport.  It was interesting to read how some of the expressions came into being and became prolific in other sports.

Overall the book was interesting to read.  I was fascinated with the history of language and how sports metaphors became a part of culture.

I received this book for Blogging for Books for review.  For more information go to the author's website.
