I love a good Christmas carol so I was excited to read this book. The stories behind the carols are interesting and the author definitely did his research. Unfortunately, all the research and music history was lost on me.
Since I am not musically inclined, I did not understand most of the musical jargon. I don't what it means to "play the euphonium in procession" or what a "musical antiquarianism" is. So I struggled to read the in-depth history of these 21 carols.
This book is well written and well researched. I just lack the musical intelligence to truly appreciate the stories.
Thomas Nelson provided me with a free copy of this book in exchange for this review which I freely give.
